Society News - What You Need to Know About our Thursday, JUNE 20 Meeting

June 20 GUEST SPEAKER

We have invited Luis M. Ortiz Jordán to our TBOS June 20 monthly meeting. He will present: "Creating the Perfect Habitat for Miniature Orchids in Reduced Spaces"

Doors open 6 p.m. Meeting Starts 6:30 p.m.

Speaker Bio:

"I have been growing orchids since de age of 11 It started when my grandfather gifted me a Cattleya dowiana and it bloomed for me. That's when I was struck with the orchid fever. I have won 11 AOS awards and currently specialize in the cultivation of Pleurothallids and other cool growing orchids.

I did my bachelors in Cell and Molecular Biology and a Master of Science in Environmental Management (MSEM) with my thesis in detection of Hypoxia in colon cancer. I currently work as a Research Scientist at Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation & Technology. My current research is in Cancer and drug discovery.

FROM OUR AUCTION CHAIR: Kathy Cox

Hi everyone our TBOS annual auction will be held Saturday. June 29, at our regular meeting place. Plant preview is at 9:30am with the auction starting at 10:00am.


If you have plants to donate, please contact me with the plant names in the next few days, so they can be put on the plant list, and bring them to the auction.

Please start collecting boxes to be used for the holding area at the auction and bring them to the regular meeting this week.


Our Auctioneer, Laura Newton, is always entertaining, adding growing tips and information about the plants.


Come for a good time and leave with fabulous plants. See you there!

Yes, it's that time of year again! Unless you are a lifetime member, or became a member recently, or at our Orchid Show in March, IT'S TIME TO RENEW YOUR Annual Membership DUES. Our fiscal year runs from July 01 through June 30.

Single annual membership $25.00 USD

Joint annual membership $30.00 USD

Lifetime membership $250.00 USD = 10 x single fee

You may pay membership dues at any monthly meeting,

by cash, check or credit card

You may also pay your membership dues by credit card using our society Square account. A small processing fee is included for credit card transactions.

The American Orchid Society Website has been updated. Besides your local orchid society, it's a good place to start to get answers to your orchid questions. Check it out!


SUMMER VACATION? There is no better time to learn more about the orchids we all love.

Webinars are online video presentations. You can register for an upcoming webinar or watch the recorded webinars any time at your convenience. New webinars are added frequently, so check back often. Monthly Greenhouse Chats are FREE to view. Others require membership in the AOS. It's easy to join and there are many benefits.

As an Affiliated Society we receive ORCHIDS, the bulletin of the American Orchid Society, monthly magazine. It is also available in digital format.
